The World's Slowest Marathon — Running for Denver's Unhoused Neighbors
Denver is facing a homelessness crisis. Since 2016, homelessness has increased by 74% in the city, with nearly 9,700 people currently without stable housing in the Denver metro area. Behind every one of those numbers is a person with a name, a story, and a need to be seen.
Neighbors is a Denver-based nonprofit doing something about it. Born out of the desire to show up consistently and compassionately for individuals experiencing homelessness in Downtown Denver, they meet people right where they are — sharing meals, providing essentials, listening to stories, and reminding every person they encounter that they are seen, valued, and never alone. In three years, Neighbors has mobilized over 500 volunteers and served more than 2,700 meals, all through the generosity of the Denver community.
We wanted to do something that reflected that same spirit of consistent, unglamorous effort. So we built the World's Slowest Marathon — 26.2 miles run over 24 hours, starting July 17th at 8 PM and finishing the afternoon of July 18th. Four miles every four hours, through the night and into the next day. No fanfare, just showing up — over and over again — for the people in our city who need it most.
Our goal is to raise $6,000+ for Neighbors. Every dollar goes directly to their outreach work in Downtown Denver.
